Notes for SUDA GOEBEL:

Suda Goebel always found space for a garden and room for a few chickens and rabbits. She was a strong woman with determination to own her own home, have her children clean and well behaved. Waste was not a word in her vocabulary. Soap was made from lye and left over grease. A hog was butchered in the fall. The head was made into sauce, the feet were pickled and the skin baked into cracklins in the oven. Squirrels were brought home by Dad and the boys to add to the menu. Mom had to skin and clean them. Fall meant trips to the woods to pick blackberries to be made into jams and jelly. The boys were busy helping out by delivering papers before and after school, setting bowling pins in the bowling alley at night and caddying at the golf course. She helped us with our homework, and cutting cardboard to place in our shoes so we would not have to miss school.

Richard Delmon Maynard had a strong desire to learn more about his family history. There were no computers, or online services to use at the time he was doing his genealogy research.
