Notes for ALVIN GOEBEL:
July 2004 Information by Private Goebel Moore: My father lied about his
age and joined the Army when he was 16 years old. He was discharged from the Army at age 22 and returned home, where he married his
first wife and had a son they named Phillip. His son died before the age of three. After the death of his wife he left for the Cincinnati
area and obtained work on the railroad. Mae Jolly was a Nurse at Speers Hospital in Dayton, Kentucky and she was visiting her
parents in Silver Grove on her day off when she met my father Alvin Goebel. My father said he saw her get off the train and asked
someone who she was. They told him and he said, " Well I intend to marry her". They were married three months later. They bought a
home in Silver Grove and lived there until the early thirties. Then they bought a small farm in Mentor, Kentucky where my mother had
spent many of her younger years. My father worked as a Switchmen on the C & O Railroad until retirement. They lived on the farm
until their deaths in the nineteen seventies.
