July 2004 Information by Private Goebel Moore: My father lied about his age and joined the Army when
he was 16 years old. He was discharged from the Army at age 22 and returned home, where he married his first wife and had a son they
named Phillip. His son died before the age of three. After the death of his wife he left for the Cincinnati area and obtained work
on the railroad. Mae Jolly was a Nurse at Speers Hospital in Dayton, Kentucky and she was visiting her parents in Silver Grove
on her day off when she met my father Alvin Goebel. My father said he saw her get off the train and asked someone who she was. They
told him and he said, " Well I intend to marry her". They were married three months later. They bought a home in Silver Grove and
lived there until the early thirties. Then they bought a small farm in Mentor, Kentucky where my mother had spent many of her younger
years. My father worked as a Switchmen on the C & O Railroad until retirement. They lived on the farm until their deaths in the
nineteen seventies.

Notes for SUDA GOEBEL:
Recalled by daughter: Mom always found space
for a garden and room for a few chickens and rabbits. She was a strong woman with determination to own her own home, have her children
clean and well behaved. Waste was not a word in her vocabulary. Soap was made from lye and left over grease. A hog was butchered in
the fall. The head was made into sauce, the feet were pickled and the skin baked into cracklins in the oven. Squirrels were brought
home by Dad and the boys to add to the menu. Mom had to skin and clean them. Fall meant trips to the woods to pick blackberries to
be made into jams and jelly. The boys were busy helping out by delivering papers before and after school, setting bowling pins in
the bowling alley at night and caddying at the golf course. She helped us with our homework, and cutting cardboard to place in our
shoes so we would not have to miss school.

Notes for RICHARD DELMON MAYNARD:
Richard Delmon Maynard had a strong desire to learn more about his family history. There were no
computers, or online services to use at the time he was doing his genealogy research. He used an old typewriter to record the 22 pages
of precious information he was able to discover at court houses, churches, graveyards, family bibles, and family members. His love
of genealogy paved the way for others to pick up where he left off. Our sincere thanks to a special human being.
